In 26 years of living in NYC I had never been to Carnegie Hall. Now I have been twice in one month thanks to Patti:))

I have been a fan for decades. Just the sound of her talking voice calms me...it's so pure and honest. I was lucky to have attended two free Santa Monica, CA summer concerts..she did over 15 years ago ..two years in a row and saw her again in Beverly Hills end of 2022. Like you said..it's hard to describe her...you have to experience her. At the Beverly Hills show.. admission included the sweetest little book of her photographs..A Book of Days..a photo for each day of the year.❤️ ...thanks so much for the post!

I was there and it was pure magic. Just what I needed with all the madness around us now. My son and I travelled from Alexandria, Virginia for the show. He's a musician who (unlike me) had never experienced Patti live. Before the trip I gave him a copy of "Just Friends." He read it on the train to and from NYC. I think he understands now why his Mom has been a fan for years.

Sounds like it was a wonderful night, Lee! Thanks for putting this all together for fans who could not be there. Your enjoyment of the event is evident in your writing. I'm happy for you, everyone who was in attendance, for the performers, and of course for Patti.

Great write up Lee, thank you. Very incisive, couldn't agree more about how she transcends genres, and cannot be pigeonholed. I really cant think of too many multi faceted Artists like her

she really is so unique.

So glad that you got to see it & experience it live, looked like a fun evening out.

Take care & I Hope Rico is doing better these days ;o)

ps: thanks also for the video links

The Winery was a really special night too. Much different than the Carnegie night in its relaxed and casual excitement. Some of the performances were stellar, all were great. Eugene's People Have the Power was true pure punk energy. At a rehearsal!

I also came to Patti through her writing, and only really recently despite us being close in age. Of course I remembered and love Because the Night, and over the years I suppose I held an image of her as an edgy NY punk musician from the past, but then a couple of times last year she popped up on my socials - there was a mention of Just Kids which intrigued me, and almost in passing I put it on my Kindle. I don't remember now why one day I suddenly thought I'd read it, I know I was thinking oh you know rock star memoir, same old, probably not that well written either, but within two paragraphs, maybe even one, I knew I would love this book, the sheer quality of the writing blew me away, I devoured it. I've now read most of what Patti has written and even better, through substack I've discovered this beautiful, gentle, extraordinarily articulate woman who never fails me. And icing on the cake, the equally wonderful Jesse Paris, and now you. I'm a world away from Patti, geographically, socially and intellectually etc but I feel a closenessvto her beyond words and I can tell that many of us feel the same. What a blessing. Thank you so much Lee 🙏🏻

Thank you so much for your comment, Frankie. I have a similar story. As a music journalist in the 1970s and 80s in the UK, I was very aware of Patti, and Because The Night has been a favorite of mine throughout the decades.

A couple of years ago, I came across Just Kids and, on the recommendation of a friend at the time, downloaded it on Kindle. Then, I began a crazy journey through Patti's world that led to so many amazing turns in my life and so many concerts and appearances (making up for lost time). Her community on Substack has also brought so many wonderful people into my life.

thank you. some of us over beneath the southern cross in far away lands don't get to see Patti - so its wonderful to read your account here. your account of Patti's substack community is so true - so many people joined together by the inspiration of Patti's music. What a gift to the world she is!

By the way, there are so many great full shows on YouTube from Brooklyn Steel.
